Through NewBe’s self-guided program, you will become familiar with our shared vision for advising and student services, as well as some key resources and learning opportunities designed to help you succeed and build your community here at Cal. We hope the NewBe discussion boards will support your efforts to connect and learn with other staff new to Berkeley.
Please note that NewBe is intended to supplement training and development provided by - and specific to - your home unit, department, school, or college. It covers content that is relevant to student services professionals who work with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in a wide range of roles across campus. In addition to the resources offered through this course, you may also want to familiarize yourself with the Advising Matters website. Course Objectives
By completing this course, you will:
- Learn about Berkeley’s shared vision for advising and student services
- Better understand a big-picture view of your new role
- Begin to explore Berkeley’s Foundations of Practice and our equity-oriented, strengths-based model for supporting student success
- Familiarize yourself with resources you need to succeed at your job, including technology tools, core student services, must-know websites, opportunities to build your community and your career, and more
