Meet UC Berkeley Professor Dacher Keltner, who is the Faculty Director of the Greater Good Science Center(link is external) and a leading researcher in the field of emotion and well-being. In this time of uncertainty and upheaval, we in the field of student services are being called upon to support students in new ways, while at the same time we are challenged by our own unexpected levels of stress and anxiety. Moreover, people of color and low-income people are being hit hard by the pandemic, throwing into sharp relief racial divisions and income inequality. How does this reality impact our work? In this Advancing Practice session, we will learn together about:
-
Self-compassion, acceptance, awe and reverence, and how these qualities can support our own self-care,
-
Practical ways we can help ourselves build resilience,
-
Our cultural context regarding equity and well-being.
We hope you’ll walk away from this session feeling motivated and empowered for better self-care so you can better support both yourself and your students.
