This month's student services community interview features Donna Vivar and Heather Iwata!

Heather Iwata

Heather Iwata is currently the graduate advisor in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. She has worked on campus for 13 years in professional and PhD programs. Prior to UC Berkeley, she worked at San Jose State in Greek Affairs and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in Greek Affairs and Orientation where she completed her Masters in Counseling and Guidance. Heather has three children with whom she enjoys anything Disney; dancing to 90’s music; and releasing stress with Urban Kick.

Donna Vivar

Donna Vivar (she/her) serves as the Strategic Initiatives Manager for the Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence (CE3).  With 15+ years of experience in academic counseling, advising, outreach, program planning, collaborative partnerships, and training and development, she is passionate about providing equitable opportunities to all students.  Prior to Donna's recent return to Cal, she was the Director of Undergraduate Academic Programs in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis.  She has an open shared leadership philosophy that relies heavily on relationship building and empowering others to utilize their strengths and talents.  Donna loves spending time with her family (which includes chasing around her four and one and a half year olds), trying new foods, high intensity interval training/boot camp workouts, and learning more about whole-hearted living, self-care practices, and social justice issues.

Join our Berkeley advising and student services community and get to know one another better! Each month we will host a dynamic duo via an "Inside the Actor's Studio" style interview. The exchange will cover personal background, work, and information about each staff member's unit. It's like a fireside chat or a networking lunch. Without the fire and food, but holding the warmth. The session will be moderated by Jennifer Ochoa and Cassandra Dunn and will be recorded.
