This session will introduce core concepts, policies, and practices to assist advisors in understanding and engaging trans and nonbinary identities and communities. The workshop will provide attendees with practices to create gender inclusive spaces to support trans and nonbinary students.

Presenter: Em Huang (they/them) is the Director of LGBTQ+ Advancement & Equity at UC Berkeley’s Gender Equity Resource Center. They work to advance queer and trans communities in higher education through an intersectional lens, with their experiences as a queer, trans, and nonbinary East & Southeast Asian American informing their passion for social justice education and advocacy. Their work involves improving university and system-wide policies and practices that impact LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff, developing and implementing initiatives to address community needs, and advising campus organizations, stakeholders, and individuals around issues of gender and sexuality.
